David Shows Kindness to Mephibosheth

Chapter 9
1 David said, "Is there anyone still remaining from the house of Saul, that I may show steadfast love to him for Jonathan's sake?" 2 There was a servant of the house of Saul, and his name was Ziba. And they called him to David, and the king said to him, "Are you Ziba?" And he said, "I am your servant." 3 And the king said, "Is there still anyone from the house of Saul to whom I may show God's steadfast love?" And Ziba said to the king, "Jonathan has a son who is lame in his feet." 4 The king said to him, "Where is he?" Ziba said to the king, "He is in the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar." 5 Then King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6 Mephibosheth son of Jonathan son of Saul came to David and fell on his face and prostrated himself. And David said, "Mephibosheth." And he said, "Behold, your servant." 7 David said to him, "Do not fear, for I will do steadfast love with you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the fields of your father Saul, and you will eat bread at my table continually." 8 He bowed low and said, "What is your servant, that you have turned to the dead dog that is like me?" 9 And the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, "I have given to your lord's son everything that belonged to Saul and all his household." 10 You shall work the ground for him, you and your sons and your servants, and you shall bring in the harvest, and it shall be bread for the son of your lord, and they shall eat. And Mephibosheth, son of your lord, shall eat bread continually at my table. And Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 And Ziba said to the king, "According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do." "As for Mephibosheth," said the king, "he shall eat at my table as one of the king's sons." 12 And Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Micha. And all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants to Mephibosheth. 13 Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king's table, and he was lame in both his feet.
